I used to have piggy banks on the safe in mummy's office, next to my study table. I seldom fill it.. daddy was always the one who put in coins everyday without fail. He kept coins in his left pocket and when it gets too heavy, he releases them into my piggy bank. I noticed that he often starts putting in all the RM1, followed by the 50cents, 20 cents... and keeps a small portion of the remaining coins back into his pocket. I asked why. Daddy said "So that when it is full, the amount accumulated will be more. Putting in RM1 a day, after a month, the amount will be more, as compared to putting in 10 cents a day."
=)
Looking back at the moments, when the piggy bank is full, bring it to the bank with daddy, waiting for the banker to count... it is always so satisfying to know of the total. Sometimes RM100, RM200, RM300. They went straight into my bank account. =D Like the little efforts that we put in what we believe in everyday, we may not remember how much we've put in, and when was the last reward, but we continue sowing, believing, putting in the coins, until it reaches the top. =)
One day, daddy took down all 3 of our piggy banks to open them up. He poured out all the coins, all of them.. I didn't understand. He roughly counted them and started putting them into a pink plastic bag. I still didn't dare to ask. Next thing i know, he went out with the plastic bag to buy us dinner. I finally asked why. Daddy said "We're lacking in cash today and the bank is not working." I remembered daddy carried the plastic bag with him that weekend, buying us dinner and groceries..
We talked about this incident with mummy just yesterday. We joked about how ugly it was for a man to carry a pink plastic bag full of coins to buy food and groceries in town. Mummy said "Everyone has their ups and downs." Yes.. that is so correct. I stopped laughing and started to feel so proud of my daddy. No doubt, he has been through so much ups and downs in his life, what is that to him.
Through his downs, he never gives up. Through his ups, he never forgets those who need help and support.
When he was around, we never have to worry about a thing. Every meal, he buys for us, even when he was busy with work or rushing for meeting. Not until he left us, we realised just how pampered we were, and how much we've taken him for granted.
It's been 7 years, stepping into the 8th year..
His life, is still teaching me a lot. Every little lesson i learn from reviewing his life, i put it into my piggy bank... little by little. I want to be as great, as humble, as sacrificial... Thank you daddy, i love you.
