My black & white TV.... :)

Ecclesiastes 3
A Time for Everything
a time to be silent and a time to speak

Joshua pointed out, that he observed over the weekends I spent with my mum, I was the most silent... guess when? when.. my mum was telling stories. :D

If you know me, you know I like to talk, I like to ask questions, I especially love to bug my mum. She "hates" it when I am around, she said she doesn't have peace & quiet :P Anne and my brother are the cool and quiet ones... when facing them my mum does the talking. She lost her power when she faces me. Hahaha. :P Just kidding la.

I shall tell you what makes me so talkative another time. ;) I was a very quiet and extra soft spoken girl when I was young. My mum, grandma and aunties uncles can be my witnesses. :P

Anyway, besides loving to talk, I can't remember since when, I started loving to listen to old stories too. :) My grandma, my mum, my uncle's stories. If my dad is still here, I would make him tell his stories too! :)

During the younger, the more rebellios days, I used to get a little annoyed when the elderly starts to tell stories and repeat the same.... as I learn to appreciate them, I want to make the stories last in my memory, but find it so hard. Can you re-tell the tales that your grandparents has told u? You're so gifted if you can. I can't! :( Even after I hear it more than once. Trust me, I have really short memory.. I could easily turn into a Dory when I become Granny Joan. I wish I can store up each little stories in my head like how we do with the files in laptop, then back-up in hard disc. I want to re-tell the stories to my children, my grandchildren.. haha.. :P

Why do I love the old stories so much? Initially was because I am very interested to know about my parents' past. How they lived their lives, when the world was all black & white. :) How they met.. wow, I shall leave their love story to another time too. ;) Slowly, I realised just how amazing it is to know of the condition they grew up, decisions they have made, obstacles they're been through, how they overcomed and I started imagining the scenes in a black & white tv screen. Some were good decisions, some could be better... some showed that dreams work, some just show dreams (or should I say empty promises) without action doesn't bear fruit at all. :P

The Ng & the Ling family histories.

I remember I used to question during the days we struggled with Sejarah, why do we need to study and memorise the past?? And I was told "The History, the good or the bad, the right or the wrong, we can learn from. We don't have to go through it again because someone has gone through it and that now we can use it as a good reference."

It is true. :) It is, interesting. I am appreciating the value of it. I am loving the History of my family.

Even Joshua cannot deny that my parents' family tree's histories carry the most drama scenes we've ever heard of. Better than the HK or Korean dramas. Hehe. Just kidding. :P

Daddy was born in a poor family. Everything was hard for them but today they're fine, the boys are well-educated, the girls married well. :) I am sure not just my daddy, but his siblings all has their own impactful stories to share. If only I am closer to them.. I want to hear them tell tales, especially those that're related to my daddy. :)

Mummy was born in a well-to-do family. Grandfather (we call him Ah Kung) never has to work for people his whole life. Greatgrandfather owns many rubber estates. ;) From Ayer Tawar, his 8 children grew up, then my mummy (3rd child, 3rd daughter) led all the younger ones, one by one, to study abroad, i.e. UK, US, Australia.... They called her (in their dialect) 母鸡 close to the meaning of mother of all chicks. And now 1 settled in US, 3 settled in Australia and 2 are back in Malaysia. Each of them.. carries a story as to what drives the decision they settled in that particular country or return to HOME etc etc.

I want to try my best to reveal the history chapter by chapter here. When I become Granny Joan, I can read again to refresh my memory. Hehe. ;)

Conclusion, no matter rich family or poor family you're born in, there will still be big and small problems. MONEY is not the solution to everything. So, let's not go after money :P but still an important element I agree.. hahaha.. :P

Ahhh.... I am just so excited about the Black & White TV in my head now.. hehehe :D Want to catch some black & white movie together some time? :P
