Week 21.
10th to 16th September.
Renovation outstanding items:-
(1) Kitchen cabinets & backsplash & gas & hood
(2) Wardrobe repairs or replacement
(3) Small door under staircase, the space for shoes storage
Monday, because we already know the wardrobe case has turned ugly. Our deposit is unlikely to return and we're stuck with the lousy wardrobe.... I decided to start using it. Yes, use THAT wardrobe. :( After a church meeting, I shifted my Ikea wardrobe from skyroom to masterroom, putting it next to the ugly wardrobe helps to balance things up a little. We also shifted the Ikea chest of 6 over to the middle, the rightful place of where it should stand. :) Even before or during early stage of renovation, I already know we will not be having a walk-IN wardrobe, but a walk-THROUGH wardrobe. :P I'm excited about putting it up finally!
Tuesday, after prayer service, I used a damp cloth to wipe the wardrobe clean. Getting it ready to for our clothes to go in, but waiting for Monday September 16 when my relative (who is a carpenter in Muar) to come and take a look at the wardrobe. He say he can help us clean it up. :) Thank God for relatives.
Wednesday, I had a secret Santa / angel / ke poh mum..... I came home to these ...
My mum made Anne buy things to fill up our kitchen and fridge. -_- Anne just got a set of our house keys and she decided to surprise us. But.. she did triggered the alarm in the afternoon because we forgot to tell her she has to disarm it. She lied to me that she was going to take her tupperware for her newly baked cookies. White lies.... Anyway..so grateful for my mum. :) Not the thing she bought, but the thought of it is simply priceless. :) May God bless her abudantly!
At night after dinner, I spent time clearing up our toileteries! And also tidying up & decorating my dresser... until 12am.. :D
Now the clock is up on the wall. :)
More things in the drawer.
These are stuffs I think should go into our bedside table drawers. But the tables are not being assembled yet... Joshua is so busy.. should I do it myself? :P
Thursday, whole day at work my head is filled with shoe storage ideas.. I can't wait to organise our shoes because they're all in boxes which is not good.. like sardine cans. So after work I went to carefour, looked through their shoe racks.. wooden racks, plastic racks, with or without wheels, 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 tiers. I almostttt bought the plastic 5 tiers with wheels, but last minute I put it back. Wanted to go to Mydin in USJ to look at their options but well I got delayed because I forgot to pay parking before exiting, so had to walk back into the car park to look for auto pay machine. It's a very dumb mistake but it spurred me on to still come up with a shoe storage solutions that night without buying any racks! I got home, feeling stupid, looked at the amount of shoes, looked at the space under staircase.. and then I had an idea. We have many boxes from moving, I took them out from storeroom and started filling the space with empty boxes! Then.. fill in our shoes! Ta dah!!
I went to 73 to hunt for old floor mat and found 2 which already has holes, it's no longer good for bathroom use but for storeroom is just nice. :D I also erm.... took an old & dirty curtain to use as base. Am very satisfied with this little corner, best part is, I didn't have to buy shoe racks, thank God I did not. :) Joshua attended orientation about shoe storage system and lets hope he doesn't mess this space up. Fingers crossed!
Next, I shifted this old rotan table from 73. It was in Muar office and was delivered to 73 together with the rest of the furnitures. I tried to remove the dirt on the glass top and it's actually quite easy with a metal ruler.
Still thinking where to put this table. At the moment, am keeping it upstairs in the sky room together with other oldies. ;)
Friday night, I went to Ikea with Anne (yes Ikea again....) to buy mirrors. Wanted to buy 4 mirrors but ended up with only 3. One is out of stock. :( But all our bathrooms are going to have mirrors by the weekend! :D After coming back from Ikea, Anne and I started assembling the bedside tables! Nothing is too difficult, just follow the instructions. :)
Joshua was busy working, I couldn't wait any longer to use these tables, so just went ahead with it and had fun.
We did the 1st one, then Joshua came to help (after completing his work). I occassionally reminded him that we're doing his job. :P
He wasn't careful enough when he hammer the nails in the wood, it came out from the other side of the wood! Thank God he managed to remove it with plyer and flat screw driver...
We only managed to finish after 1am.. :P I'm very satisfied with it! :D Shall show you the picture of the bedside tables next to our bed next time.. was too tired... :)
Saturday, noon Joshua and I went to SS2 to collect mirror for our master bathroom. Well, we already paid deposit for custom size mirror without checking out Ikea's mirrors collection. We browsed through but we didn't know we missed out another section that also has mirrors. :( This mistake caused us to have to custom make at least one mirror, so we made one for master bathroom (3mm mirror). In the afternoon, Anne came with me to SS24 to choose tiles for kitchen wall. We have finally decided to scrap the glass backsplash idea and go back to traditional tiles backsplash. It is much more practical.... Ah Hoong came at 2.30pm to help us fix mirrors.

Masterbathroom. Ah Hoong has many comments about our mirror for master bathroom making me regret on the size... -_-
I do hope that I will grow to like the mirror more and more each day.....
Full body mirror. Ah Hoong uses laser to ensure the mirror is straight.
After that we discussed about kitchen backsplash, he quoted RM1k. He did also say that our kitchen will get DUSTY again. :( All the things have to be shifted out again... :( :( :( :( Should we?
I asked Ah Hoong to do me a favour... to shift an old cabinet from 73's bedroom to 71's living room. He agreed, awesome! They are really professional in moving... so careful. :)
This cabinet is old.. my grandma used to put curtains in it, over the years the door has accumulated some dirt & mold... the stains cannot be removed, but I see potential in it. :) After Ah Hoong left. I immediately wipe it clean and put an extra board on it because the top is not level, has grooves where dust can stay in. The board was extra from our failed wardrobe. The sides are not finished so I just brushed in some white paint.. the white faded a bit after it's dry though....
Cabinet also needed some repairs, I glue back the wood that was coming off. There is a part where the wood had chipped off showing the lighter wood underneath, I might find a brown water colour to colour that part in a darker brown. :) We'll see.
I then started putting things in. Basically things that are quite junk in nature, additional facial cleanser, extention plugs, boxes for phones, cameras etc, curtain hooks, glue, blank notebooks, red packets, weights for exercises, empty cases, empty recycle bags and even some random craft related things! :D It's rojak.
Day ended with dinner at 73. Anne is helpful even in providing us with good food! :D
Sunday, my mind is still on the rojak cabinet, immediately after church, I went home, changed and walked to Carefour! This time refused to drive because parking is RM2 if I don't spend RM30 and above. My mind is focused only on one thing... the solution to beautify the rojak cabinet, so it's going to be less than RM30. I went to the textile shop and bought 1 meter of cotton fabric for RM7. Bought glue and sushi for lunch then came home. Started on the cabinet without hesitation!
Measured, drew lines and cut. Apply glue and just put the fabric on! Yeay! Looking handsome!

I continued the same for the rest of the doors. The fabric was not enough for the 4th door so I have to combine 2 pieces. :) But it's not obvious. :D
Next, I move on to putting up day light curtains in our front big window. It's old one from Muar, I thought we have to trim it to fit the window but I was shocked to find that the length is JUST NICE for this window!! And because we don't have another curtain rod just for this day light curtain, I clipped it together with the existing checkered curtain, with a bit of adjustment to leave extras in the middle... we could expand it like picture below during day time to allow sunlight to enter the house, without compromising on privacy. :D Until we are sure the brackets can take an additional rod.. we shall make do with this. ;)
Joshua thinks I'm crazy. After dinner, I kept complaining that I'm exhausted... and that he should help to do some house stuffs although he's very busy with work most times... he wanted to start arranging our documents at the bookshelf, I stopped him. I prefer him to do some heavy duty work that I will scream if I had to do all by myself. That is, the storeroom.
Our storeroom has been in a mess, no one care to clean up or tidy up after the renovation. All the cement dust, paint buckets, extra tiles... are all in there.
So Joshua put everything outside, while I sit at dining table to tell him what to do and how to arrange the things. He swept the floor clean and was about to lay paper box as the base straight away but I insisted that he wipe the floor with damp cloth and then mop with soap water. He said it feels so much like a punishment, but we're not going to clean that floor for maybe 10 years down the road, so why be calculative now right?
After the floor is dry, we open up paper boxes and lay on the floor.
First thing that goes in are the extra tiles, all the tiles has cement dust on it, I wipe each one clean.. as much as I can though....

This is how our storeroom looks like now. The paint buckets and christmas tree are kept at the back. The tools rack at near the door, so that Joshua can have easy access to it when he needs them.
Finally call it a day. Tiring day.. thank God next day is public holiday. :)
Looking forward to meet our carpenter relative on Monday, the son of my dad's maternal younger cousin brother (phew.. so long I know), his name is Ah Yan. ;) Our wardrobe saviour. Hehe.
