Jan 2020 1st to 14th...
On Jan 1st, we only had one agenda, which is to attend Zyon's birthday party, go home take a nap and have a good family dinner, sleep early and be ready to tackle new school the next day.
But life doesn't always go as we planned, because tragedy happens.
While we are at the party, we adults were seated at the dining table eating while the kids were all scattered in front of the TV and at the back room playing board games, and I didn't know that they were also playing with the door.... I noticed Jasmine drinking just vitagen and some crackers, she hardly ate any solids. So I walked to see her a few times to feed her pasta.
I was feeding her pasta by the door of the back room, I turned away to go outside and then I heard her scream!
I turned back slowly as I wasn't sure it was her screaming. I was shocked and very confused to see her holding a pool of blood in both her hands!! I was puzzled for a moment and trying to understand what those could be if not blood? water colours? if blood, whose blood? So many questions in my head and a crying girl in front of me. So I took her with me to the back toilet to run it under water and to my horror, I saw that part of her finger tip was already broken off!!!!!
I quickly showed hand signals to Jill who is a doctor to come and help me!! I don't know what to do!!
I locked the toilet door behind me because all the kids were following us and disturbing me in my thoughts. Then I heard Jack screaming "Ohhh myyy God!!!" when Joshua found the broken part of the finger tip with the whole nail stuck at the door hinge. I was still holding Jasmine's finger and told her "it is ok" but in my heart, I really don't know how, I was searching for an "Undo" button!!!
Then Joshua was knocking hard at the door because he couldn't get in. The other door to the toilet was blocked by the kids too. So I opened, he and Dr Vinod were there. Dr Vinod is ER doctor for UH. He checked and asked for clean cotton & clean towel to wipe her finger to stop the bleed. I suggested to use the hand towel which was hanging there. He used it and pressed to stop bleeding, while telling Jasmine that she is a brave girl. Poor girl there haven't stop crying and screaming. Then he wrap the wound with cotton and told us to go to UH immediately. It is a public holiday and he didn't think private hospital doctors will be around. So we carry our babies (of course we didn't forget Jasper) and ran to our car. Someone helped us to pack the amputated part in a pack of ice too.
In the car, just moments after Joshua drove off, Jasmine puked. It was due to the shock.. smelled of purple vitagen and all over her clothes and the car rubber mat. We used the towel we brought for the pool party to wipe as much as we could.
Then I told Jasmine to try to sleep. She was such a good girl, she really tried. And she told me "mummy I hope that this is just a dream". I told her that I wish the same too...
I called Swee Lin jiji to help send clean clothes to us, so that Jasmine can change out of the smelly clothes. She said she will come.
Joshua drove very fast and offended some drivers on the road, but we didn't care.
When we arrive it was around 12pm, I carry Jasmine and ran in. As I ran, I prayed out so Jasmine also could hear, that there will not be long waiting. That the right doctor will be right there waiting to treat her.
At the emergency, they directed us to the pediatric emergency. There is an MO who saw her, checked and said she will contact the hand surgeon to come. They just changed the bandage but did not clean the wound with anything. Took her height and weight. I requested for a wheel chair and they provided. Swee Lin jiji then came and we changed Jasmine into clean clothes. Also some wet wipes to wipe off the blood stains and the puke. Then the whole duai ee family also came. I actually wish that they did not come. We had to spend time to update them which blurred our judgement about the situation. Like whether this is the best place to be, or should we change to another hospital etc. It was just a very very confusing and vulnerable time. We updated many people over whatsapp and calls. I teared knowing that highly likely her finger is going to be shorter.. Jasmine teared when she saw me tear... and I have to hold back or cry behind her.
We kept on waiting and waiting..... the MO said that the hand surgeon is stuck in a 5 hours long surgery. She received some instructions about how to keep the broken nail part... apparently she told us to keep it with us was the wrong move! All the ice had already melted. Anyway she took it Up at this point we still had hopes that we are waiting at the right place, for the right doctor.
Then the MO left her shift. Before she left she assured us that Jasmine's case is not critical, so we can wait. I don't think it is a good news at all.
Poor Jasmine waited like this with an open wound, watching youtube videos in the wheelchair... without eating lunch. The MO said not to feed her anything, so that she will be ready for surgery anytime. The last thing she ate was bread and water at 2pm.
At 1.30pm Wee Liem and Sharon came to pick Jasper up, so they can help us watch him while we focus on getting Jasmine's treatment. They are really the best help ever.
Anyway, the annoying lady who acted professional but actually did nothing.. put us to wait again. We waited again for hours, by about 4pm Swee Lin jiji and all finally have left the hospital. At 5pm, the orthopedic came. As the MO updated us with some hope, even though hand surgeon is not available (still in the major operation), his colleague will come. She said that as orthopedic, they also know how to treat such injury. Okayy... so we waited! And he came, he saw... the wound, yes they opened it up again..... and said he can't do this. Only the hand doctor can. -_- He only could send her for an x-ray, which we went and took about half hour. From the X-ray he said to us that her fone is fine. That was all !
He did hinted to us that perhaps we can consider going to another hospital.... so we made a call and confirmed the hand surgeon in SJMC was right at the hospital. We quickly asked for a transfer or referral letter. The same annoying staff member who was arranging the paper works were chit chatting with her colleague when we were RUSHING. So Joshua couldn't stand it anymore and asked her in a very serious one whether she can do this faster or not!
We rushed again! In the car by 5.30pm, Joshua drove very fast and thank God there were no traffic jam.
We arrived at SJMC before 6pm. The MO on call immediately got the nurse to clean the wound, it was so painful Jasmine screamed! Imagine the wound was not cleaned in the past 5 to 6 hours! While that's happening the MO took some closed up photos to send to the hand surgeon.
Then we waited outside and by 6.30pm the hand surgeon appeared. He didn't even ask for wound to be opened up again. He just discussed based on the photos and the X-ray that I showed to him.
Even though we brought the broken part of the finger tip to the hospital, he said it is not advisable to put it back. As the success rate of the tissue living again is not high. And if the tissue fail to live, we will need to go through another surgery, which is the surgery that he was currently suggesting. He said that he will stitch up the wound and her finger will be 2-3mm shorter, which will not be noticeable, unless someone look closely or compare with another hand. So when the doctor was explaining it to us by drawing and discuss in mandarin, Jasmine was listening and she asked me some questions about it later on.
We said ok to the surgery and he said will take place at 8pm. I immediately then register and had her admitted.
We were waiting here for the bed that will take her to the ward to get ready for surgery. She won't be able to eat anything until after the surgery. The soft toy dog there was from Swee Lin jiji as a comfort toy for her.
She last ate some buns was at 2pm at the UH Hospital. Poor girl it is close to dinner time and she couldn't eat anything. I went to register for her admission and because it is 1st Jan 2020 and our company insurance card did not auto switch over to Year 2020 plan, I couldn't register her under the insurance. I had to swipe RM6500 with my credit card. The lady at the register had estimated the full cost to be RM13k. @.@ I didn't think much about the money at that point, our aim was to get Jasmine fixed.
The nurses came and took her up to the ward. They did not put in the needle on the hand yet, as all in patients must have, because they will be doing it at the operation threatre after putting her under GA.
Not long after we enter the ward (twin sharing again, because private room is forever full!), the nurse came and requested for her to be changed into the hospital gown and remove all her existing clothes. So she wore only the gown and they were taking her to the operation threatre.
Janet, Kang Wei, Kara and Kayleb came to visit! It was very sweet of them to pop by and said a prayer for her. They also brought a pack of food! Milk, bread and biscuits, all consumed straight away right after she came out of the OT.
We agreed that Joshua will follow her into the operation threatre because he had the experience when he tore his meniscus from a futsal accident.
Jasmine was extremely calm here. She always made things easy for us. Can't imagine if it's another child going through this.
I had left to get Jasper by now. They waited here for about 15 minutes and Joshua told Jasmine about his operation experience. We thought Joshua would be able to stay in the OT throughout the surgery but no, he can only be there for the waiting. The actual OT he is not allowed to enter.
Jasmine was so steady when she had to enter by herself without any of us there! The GA doctor said she took the gas without resistance. They have rarely seen any kid with such a good attitude.
So Jasper had his dinner with Isaac. He didn't finish most of the food. Then Wee Liem drove him to SJMC to meet us.
Because the Grab Food came late etc, Wee Liem sent him later than planned. So Joshua came down to join me at Family Mart at around 8.15pm. We took the maggi cup while waiting for Jasper.. and finally he arrived at 8.45pm.
Sharon told us Jasper said these funny things. :)
Jasper : my daddy is Uncle Joshua, my mummy is Joan.
Sharon : what is your aunty's name?
Jasper : I don't have aunty. I have Ah Yi only.
Jasper : My house is 7 and 1.
So I took Jasper home, so that I can bath and pack whatever required for stayover. We wait for Anne to come back from Indonesia (diving trip) and then she will take all of us to hospital again.
Surgery completed at 8.50pm. Joshua said she came out groggy.
When we arrived, it's already almost 11pm. She got her blanky, the mini wolf from miniso and then busy watching Disney Channel.
She is in such a cheerful mood although both hands are painful. Of course she had been changed into proper clothes. Air con was cold and I forgot to bring her socks, so she wore mine to sleep.
The whole night our neighbour kid cried non stop! I couldn't sleeeeeeeep, but Jasmine slept like a log.
She woke up very early, around 7am... and kept watching Disney Channel.
That morning was Jasper's first day at Summer Academy. Joshua's job to send him.
Not liking it... well it's his first day, I will be like this too.
Started to cry when daddy is leaving.
But daddy had to leave him. Teacher Ameetha was with him and she later on updated us that she let Jasper follow her around. He stopped crying when she asked him where is his jeje and he said that jeje is in hospital.
Pastor Kenneth came to visit, same time as Wee Liem & Sharon. I am feeling guilty that I hardly visit people at hospitals. :( Need to improve that!
Then Joshua came for a while. And both daddy and Ah Yi went to work.
The whole time I was busy replying messages about Jasmine's conditions.
Doctor came at 11am and quickly changed the cotton bandage. And said can be discharged that afternoon. We are required to return on Monday. He said 2 weeks recovery. Stitches are self dissolve.
We decided to come out of the ward for a walk and some sunshine because the place is really freezing cold. We are just waiting for nurse to get her medicine organized, come to remove the needles and then pay and go home. Joshua is on his way to come help us discharge.

And then took a little nap...
Then Joshua arrived. Shortly after he arrive, at 1pm some elders and SPO came. Right after they pray, I left to go and settle the hospital bill and get documents ready for discharge.
At 1.35pm, we are ready to go home!
Finally got home.
Gave her a good bath with rubber gloves on to avoid wetting the finger.
Then I encouraged her to write down what happened. She only managed to write this much. I think it was too painful for her to continue describing what happened.
At 3.30pm, she said suddenly "I am so amazed that I can be well! How much blood did I lose? If I lose all my blood what will happen?"
She also said "I miss the hospital.. oh nevermind I think I will hurt myself again." @.@
At night Joy and Ken came to visit while we are cleaning up our dinner, a very guilty Dora came too.
Also Vijay, Ronson and Yee See. They all brought snacks and fruits.
Joy offered to pay for the medical bill, to which I explained it was all covered by INTI insurance. They are really feeling bad about this. But we know that this is no one's fault. Even Jasmine understands it and was happily playing with Dora.
Jasper played with Odelia, haha. So random.
At night before sleep she looked at the calendar. She saw 1st Jan and the word "Zyon's party". She took a pen and slash the word party because she said there was no party for her. She remembered the painful tragedy and started crying.
We acknowledged that her emotions is unstable now, she can be positive now but suddenly negative in the next moment. So we asked for Homes to give us a little break so that we can focus more on her inner healing.
3rd Jan, we went to Subang Parade McD to meet with Jessica Martin, Jerome & Jude and Chee Yong and Sam. They gave her something and Jess paid for her McD meal. :)
Then when we return home, Pastor Sandra was already waiting outside our house with helium balloons.

We opened a small bottle of slime to play.
Jasper didn't take his nap yet and was very cranky.
At night we went to Sunway Pyramid. Stopped by popular.
Went to Uniqlo and bumped into Angeline of Brainchild. Joshua bought a pair of new pants and I bought some pants for the kids.
Then they asked to play this, they miss the one in Camerons.
Very happy to see Jasmine able to enjoy herself.
5th January, Sunday. She went to Acts Kids and forgot she had a bandage and washed her hands. She didn't immediately tell teacher. She tried to wipe on her blouse but later on she decided to tell teacher. Teacher Pei Pei took her out to look for me. I was worried and we went around looking for church's first aid box. Ken Sing helped me found one and I was slowly cutting the wet bandage... Joy was looking from a distance, she seemed very worried as well. I tried not to display her finger in front of everyone including Jasmine herself, so I just cut until I know the bandage is not wet, I stopped. Added some new bandage and wrapped it. It's bulkier than the original one but we only needed to last till next day, which is our first follow up appointment.
Monday 6th Jan, waiting for doctor's follow up consultation. We arrived at 7.30am but doctor only will be in at 9.30am.

I hide the red puppy jumper and the white elsa dress she wore on the day of accident, because I think none of us want to remember that day... So now whenever we going to air con place, this pink jumper shall do the trick.
Finally doctor came and he opened the bandage to check. He explained to us that he trimmed her bone shorter by about 1mm in order to stitch up, and also rounded the sides.
Joshua felt the stitching was very well done but I still felt so so sorry for Jasmine.
Doctor say to return in the following week again. He said we don't have to do anything, just let the wound dry up itself. He said once she's off the bandage (when it's dry), I can slowly cut and pull out the black stitches when she is sleeping. It sounded like a painful things to do but if we don't pull out ourselves, the stitches may take 3 months to completely fall out on its own.
Evelyn also thinks the wound looks clean. Nail growing from base to tip could take about 3 months. So this is a patience test for us all. I decided we shall celebrate each mini milestones then. :)
Formal MCs.
After the doctor's appointment, she requested for a new soft toy. -_- This is a rare request, so I took her to Aeon Big to find, we bought a small tortoise for RM14. She rejected the bigger soft toys like super heros, unicorn, carrot, whale, bear etc, only attracted by the tortoise.
At home played lego almost whole afternoon.
At 6.30pm on the way back from picking Jasper at Summer Academy, Jasmine spotted this rainbow!!

I asked her how does she feel, she said she felt that she was very pitiful and the rainbow is from God.
Jasmine hated the antibiotics that must be consumed twice a day, other than painkillers. And we didn't expect this part to be among the toughest. Last day of antiobiotics was 6th Jan, thank God! That night, we celebrated with a hip hop dance learning video in the living room.
Everyday I asked her whether she still feel sad, she said yes because need to go to see doctor again.

Summer Academy is so awesome that they allow Jasmine to play too.
Another day where I took her with me to Aeon Big, she wrapped the moo moo like a baby and wrapped herself up like a bride.
During the one week of recovery at home, we binge watched a few movies like Princess Diary, Confession of Shopaholic, Stephen Chow movie and Enchanted. I wasn't sure whether I should cover her eyes when there is a kiss scene, seriously though. I dont want her to be curious about it but I also didn't know whether to discuss with her or wait for her to ask me.... anyway we left it there and once when playing she wanted to kiss Jasper and then laughed. @.@ God please give me wisdom!
We also made slime together, 3 colours but one failed and we had to throw away. Jasper loves to play with slime but Jasmine doesn't like it.

10th Jan, skin irritation started around her eyes. I suspect is her touching face with the injured hand, because cannot touch water.
11th Jan, it was a Saturday and there is a replacement class. We think this is the best chance to have a first day back at school. So dressed her in a formal school pinafore.

Went to pick up at 12.30pm. No day care because it is Saturday. She said there was a girl in class that spoke Mandarin to her.
The teacher there is 黄菁晴. Her name is a combination of mine and Jasmine's. Oldest class teacher for all standard 1.
Went to Aeon Big, they have sunday 5% off leading to CNY.
So glad we found 2 pairs. Batman and Avengers. Very affordable prices.
13th Jan, she should be back in school officially but due to doctor's appointment, we have excuse to go to school late.
As usual, mamak breakfast.
Then the cashier gave her 2 lollipop for free.
Doctor say that her finger can start to touch water already. Jasmine said it's still painful but she is oky to slowly wash. While we are all talking to doctor, Jasmine just wondered around the doctor's office touching interesting things on the table.
We sent her to school at 10.30am. So bad that parents cannot enter, so Jasmine had to carry her own bag to walk to her house. Joshua said, Jasmine is really walking into a big society.
I came over at 1pm when they finish school because today will be her 1st day to walk to day care.

I walked with them.
When I arrived to pick up, a boy said to me that Jasmine's chinese is so poor. I said to him why not you teach her then?
Teacher Lim said she is poor in reading so I packed these to be read at Brainchild.
Morning before sending her, Joshua will make a small cup of milo for her. I initially suggested eating cheese but realised she sometimes doesn't like cheese.
She prays every night that the next morning she will be able to wake up early for school, while the sky is still dark.
This is 2nd day 放学 I was there again.

Now the highlight of their day is playing at Summer Academy playground. I think it is great. So we stop worrying whether we have taken them outdoor enough. Haha.
Someone sent me this photo on another day to assure me she is ok, when I didn't go over to collect her. She wears sports attire to school on every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
That's it for 2 weeks. So many things had happened. Dramatic January and the month still have another 2 weeks more to go. Refer to next post. :)

So I took Jasper home, so that I can bath and pack whatever required for stayover. We wait for Anne to come back from Indonesia (diving trip) and then she will take all of us to hospital again.
Surgery completed at 8.50pm. Joshua said she came out groggy.
She is a brave girl.Whole day with an open wound and she didn't complain. The nurse gave her painkillers she took it without any fuss. When nurse asked her if it tasted nice she shook her head.
Then Joshua, Jasper and Anne went home. Jasper has his 1st day of school next day. I quickly updated the 1F whatsapp group that Jasmine will be absent from school. And I myself had informed that I will be on emergency leave.
Before we call it a night, Pastor Andy and Jay came to visit, together with Zyon. She brought some activity book and colour pencils to keep Jasmine occupied. :) Very very thoughtful.
I have to monitor her pee to ensure the GA gets flushed out of the system. Otherwise it means her urinal organs may still be sleeping...
2nd Jan, first person to arrive at the hospital was Ah Yi at 9.30am. She bought pao for us and stayed for a while before going to work.

Pastor Kenneth came to visit, same time as Wee Liem & Sharon. I am feeling guilty that I hardly visit people at hospitals. :( Need to improve that!
Then Joshua came for a while. And both daddy and Ah Yi went to work.
The whole time I was busy replying messages about Jasmine's conditions.
Doctor came at 11am and quickly changed the cotton bandage. And said can be discharged that afternoon. We are required to return on Monday. He said 2 weeks recovery. Stitches are self dissolve.
We decided to come out of the ward for a walk and some sunshine because the place is really freezing cold. We are just waiting for nurse to get her medicine organized, come to remove the needles and then pay and go home. Joshua is on his way to come help us discharge.
Nurse came and took out the needle on the hand, she cried so much. She really dislike the needle and was just really crying it all out... I let her cry... she has all the reasons to cry.
Hospital bill came up to RM8k. The surgery name is called small local flap.
Thank God HR managed to clear the insurance and so this is fully covered by INTI insurance.
Finally got home.
Gave her a good bath with rubber gloves on to avoid wetting the finger.
Then I encouraged her to write down what happened. She only managed to write this much. I think it was too painful for her to continue describing what happened.
She also said "I miss the hospital.. oh nevermind I think I will hurt myself again." @.@
At night Joy and Ken came to visit while we are cleaning up our dinner, a very guilty Dora came too.
Also Vijay, Ronson and Yee See. They all brought snacks and fruits.
We acknowledged that her emotions is unstable now, she can be positive now but suddenly negative in the next moment. So we asked for Homes to give us a little break so that we can focus more on her inner healing.
3rd Jan, we went to Subang Parade McD to meet with Jessica Martin, Jerome & Jude and Chee Yong and Sam. They gave her something and Jess paid for her McD meal. :)
Then when we return home, Pastor Sandra was already waiting outside our house with helium balloons.

4th Jan, Joshua's birthday.
Then they asked to play this, they miss the one in Camerons.
5th January, Sunday. She went to Acts Kids and forgot she had a bandage and washed her hands. She didn't immediately tell teacher. She tried to wipe on her blouse but later on she decided to tell teacher. Teacher Pei Pei took her out to look for me. I was worried and we went around looking for church's first aid box. Ken Sing helped me found one and I was slowly cutting the wet bandage... Joy was looking from a distance, she seemed very worried as well. I tried not to display her finger in front of everyone including Jasmine herself, so I just cut until I know the bandage is not wet, I stopped. Added some new bandage and wrapped it. It's bulkier than the original one but we only needed to last till next day, which is our first follow up appointment.
Monday 6th Jan, waiting for doctor's follow up consultation. We arrived at 7.30am but doctor only will be in at 9.30am.
Finally doctor came and he opened the bandage to check. He explained to us that he trimmed her bone shorter by about 1mm in order to stitch up, and also rounded the sides.
Evelyn also thinks the wound looks clean. Nail growing from base to tip could take about 3 months. So this is a patience test for us all. I decided we shall celebrate each mini milestones then. :)
Formal MCs.
After the doctor's appointment, she requested for a new soft toy. -_- This is a rare request, so I took her to Aeon Big to find, we bought a small tortoise for RM14. She rejected the bigger soft toys like super heros, unicorn, carrot, whale, bear etc, only attracted by the tortoise.
At home played lego almost whole afternoon.
And that's Jasper there showing me his buttock, asking me to take a bite. Because I like to disturb him by saying I want to take a bite of his roti canai, he really came offering! hahahahaha.
Jasmine hated the antibiotics that must be consumed twice a day, other than painkillers. And we didn't expect this part to be among the toughest. Last day of antiobiotics was 6th Jan, thank God! That night, we celebrated with a hip hop dance learning video in the living room.
Everyday I asked her whether she still feel sad, she said yes because need to go to see doctor again.
This is Jasper at our room in the morning. They occasionally decided to wear the sleep gown.
This is playing at Summer Academy's playground. I often got worried with Jasmine's finger while playing.
Another day where I took her with me to Aeon Big, she wrapped the moo moo like a baby and wrapped herself up like a bride.
Lick Hung time table. I printed out and got her to help colour.
Thursday and Friday, I tried to wake her up early make sure she opens her eyes at 7.00am, because she needs to be up by 6.30am every morning for Lick Hung.
11th Jan, it was a Saturday and there is a replacement class. We think this is the best chance to have a first day back at school. So dressed her in a formal school pinafore.
Jasper also followed me to pick Jasmine up. Then we all walk to the car.
12th Jan Sunday. Jasper needs new shoes. His existing ones are getting tight.
So glad we found 2 pairs. Batman and Avengers. Very affordable prices.

13th Jan, she should be back in school officially but due to doctor's appointment, we have excuse to go to school late.
As usual, mamak breakfast.
We sent her to school at 10.30am. So bad that parents cannot enter, so Jasmine had to carry her own bag to walk to her house. Joshua said, Jasmine is really walking into a big society.
So she should be ok to be off bandage but she still prefers a light one when she's sleeping or when we go out.
Morning before sending her, Joshua will make a small cup of milo for her. I initially suggested eating cheese but realised she sometimes doesn't like cheese.
She prays every night that the next morning she will be able to wake up early for school, while the sky is still dark.
This is 2nd day 放学 I was there again.
Now the highlight of their day is playing at Summer Academy playground. I think it is great. So we stop worrying whether we have taken them outdoor enough. Haha.
That's it for 2 weeks. So many things had happened. Dramatic January and the month still have another 2 weeks more to go. Refer to next post. :)
