Do you know when IS the right time to throw stuffs away?
Being someone who clears the mess in the house... I always find myself at a cross-road. Should I throw this away? Do we need to keep? If we keep, where should we put it? Will we forget we have this? ..... Bottom line, not easy.
I've thrown away stuffs that now I think back, I regret. :( But when I was in the situation, I couldn't care less. I was trained to make up my mind, without consulting anyone (as I was alone..), I may have made some wrong decisions, but of course not serious, just that I miss the things I threw out. :P Overall, I rejoiced when I made some right decision and see that the place I cleared out looks clean, tidy, spacious and presentable!
Each time I go back to Muar, I have a to-do list. Everytime I managed to do it, I feel so satisfied. Because I served my family, I help make their living environment more pleasant. :) I've stopped asking myself why don't they take their own initiative, because God made us all different, He gave us all different gifts. :) Plus, I love my family so much, I really don't mind the little bit of sacrifice, in fact, I am getting used to it. :) Well, I have Anne the great assistant, and now Joshua coming into the picture, my brother & mum who appreciates all the things I did, who am I to complain?
When it comes to my own stuffs, I want to be strict too. Throw away broken stuffs, unwanted stuffs.... and from doing all these, I realised, I buy less things now. I realised how long something can last! For example, a handbag. I tend to buy whenever I see a nice one. Now, I look at my collection of bags, oh dear, some are already out of style but in great shape. A bag I bought in Singapore when I was still in uni. I thought it looked like a nice working bag, but I have like 3 years before I start work? I remember I was worried I can't find a bag like this next time so I bought it on the spot! Can't recall how much it was, but not cheap. Mummy paid for it, of course. :( I brought that bag to Australia, no occassion to use it, brought it back to Malaysia. Kept it in the wardrobe.. and after 2 years working, I suddenly thought about it! When I intend to use it, I realised that the artificial leather are slowly peeling off... what a waste if I throw it out straight away, isn't it? So I went to a florist, get them to wrap the handle with a layer of leather-like material. It came out really good, it's not obvious at all that this bag has been fixed. That costed me RM30. Foohh... pricy eh. So I've been using that bag, since 2009, on and off. :) Until today, it is my work bag, in fact I'm waiting for it to give up on serving me, but no, the denim material on the bag is so strong, the zip are still working really well.. when can I throw it away and start using my other bags? My other old bags...? :( Well, yesterday, I noticed that the inner layer of the bag.. is slowly coming out. Yeay *secretly*. Finally I see the wear & TEAR. :D I plan to throw it out before end of this year, then start using another old bag.... hahaha.. so many more bags lining up to be "used" ! I feel that I am responsible to fulfill their life purposes... :P
I've thrown away many under-used stuffs because due to humid weather here, all can't be used anymore. For example, shoes. I learnt a lesson, when you buy a pair of shoes, buy one that you are going to wear immediately. Because the more you wear the longer its life is. If u buy and keep, when you want to wear it after some months, you will realise, the shoes are slowly breaking into pieces. Maybe genuine leather shoes are not like that... but I never invested in a pair of leather shoes. So.... yah. I've been wearing my mum's many pairs of heels this year.. because she is the best buy & keep example. I'm in a race, in helping her wear her under-used shoes before they were all broken.
Clothes too, especially white pieces. I have some favourite pieces in my wardrobe and everytime I open my wardrobe, I will check on them to make sure that they are not turning yellow... Have you seen yellow spots on white clothes before? I have seen so much in my wardrobe in Muar. Clothes left unworn for years! I have a habit of keeping my favourite clothes until a special occassion, but to my white clothes, I can't. I will lose them if I don't give enough attention to them.. :P
I love it the most situations where the sole of a pair of shoes has came off and must be thrown away. Because I feel as if I received a "warrant" to send them to the dustbin and then give other shoes a chance to see KL. Haha. If it's just the rubber tip that came off, I will send it to the cobbler to get it fixed. Bad habit because, other shoes in the boxes have to wait longer. :( I decided, I need to find another way to part with these things, I can't promise "wear & tear" for all of them.. I need to maybe sell them?
Currently, I have a bag full of clothes & bags (some were my mum's), to be sold as second hand.... I don't know why, maybe we're not rough users, we do a lot of hand washing for the clothes, so many of those are all in pretty good shape, but as a lady, I am craving for opportunities where I can buy new stuffs! New bags, new shoes, new dresses....
Joshua and I were working on doing some selling over at ebay, but we realised they're charging seller fees, I refused to give my credit card details away so... maybe we're selling at lowyat website instead, I pray that there'll be enough ladies to browse through the website.. and pray that they will decide to give my stuffs a new home, a new owner that appreciates them. :)
