71 renovation progress week 8

Week 8. 11th to 17th June 2012.

How I wish the renovation is over by now. My body cries out for rest everyday after work.. and it would be lovely if we can live in the new house and not be bothered by renovation progress.....

Anyway, 11th June, Monday. We fixed appointment to meet Ah Hoong at 6pm, but none of us could make it. We both worked late.. :(

12th June, Tuesday, I had to work late again. Joshua ended work earlier so he met up with Ah Hoong at 7pm. Again, felt really sorry he and the crew had to wait in the dark... for almost an hour or two. Joshua didn't snap any photos of the house because it was simply too dark, but update is they have started mending the roof leaking areas. Our living room floor tiles are coming in on Thursday.

They have discussed about bringing the window glasses and grills in to secure the place, followed by gate & fence. So our cousin is going to arrange for the grill guy to come meet us on Saturday morning. :) Also, we need to finalise on the main wooden door entrance, which means I got to hunt the carpenter down one of these days.

Ah Hoong snapped photo of shower cubicle his supplier friend made, showed Joshua and suggested that we go with that. RM400 plus.

Should we? I'm so confused... I worry dirt will be trapped in between the sliding doors.. due to narrow space and humidity in the bathroom, esp this bathroom has no window and is located right in the middle of the house. :(  But if we don't build a shower cubicle as such, our bathroom will be wet most of the time. Dilemma dilemma...

13th June, Wednesday. Again, we both ended work late so couldn't go check 71 out.

14th June, Thursday. I rushed to 71 after work at about 6.30pm. Arrived almost 7pm, thank God the sky is still not dark, I could go in and look at the progress.

Look! They're plastered the walls around the new windows. :D

They have installed the door frame and now it is not possible to lock the grill door properly.. so it's locked with the chain.. which is not very safe. :(  until we fix the grill windows and grill door.

They have started on the flooring here... amazing isn't it? :)

 I could so imagine how our living room will look like once it is done. :D Only thing, I thought the floor tiles will look a bit more light grey when all are put together... now it just look white.. I hope maintaining the floor cleanliness won't be too tough!

 They carefully hide the floor tiles in the kitchen so that people cannot see from the front.

Here's the messy upper landing, can you see the boxed up sewage pipe? That's the best we could do.. it definitely look untidy but I have some idea to distract the focus off the pipe at the ceiling.. we'll see how it goes.. :)

Just before I leave, I glanced back at the house and spotted that obvious copper wires hanging down from ceiling upstairs, so visible from the outside! Prayying that no more break ins pleaseee... God. :)

15th June, Friday. It's Homes night so we didn't have time to drop by 71. :)

16th June, Saturday. We thought appointment with grill guy is 10.30am but he arrived at 9.30am! Our cousin told us the wrong time. We didn't have time to bath, simply brushed teeth, got changed and rushed to 71. Grill guy doesn't look happy that we were late, or he's just a grumphy guy. He measured all windows, had a little discussion about the grill style, we're going with the simple "4 inches 1 line" design. He couldn't suggest anything abou our main entrance grill door.. so we just asked him to provide a quote while we do our own research. He should be calling our cousin when quotation is ready. We hope he do it soon because he mentioned he needs 3 weeks to get all the grills ready. :(

Grills story aside, look at the flooring!! :D

We talked to the workers. I think I'm going to miss seeing these guys around once 71 renovation is over. They're really really nice.. the guy squating on the floor is from Sekinchan, he said he worked in Singapore for some years and learnt how to lay floor tiles skillfully. Among all in his crew, he does the best flooring, we're so honored to have him lay our tiles one by one. :)

The wooden boards on the floor is the walking area, is to prevent scratches on the new tiles. They are so thoughtful and careful.

We observed how he lay tiles, it's really interesting, first he put in the sand as base, the topless guy was helping with mixing the sand with water. Then he will place a piece of the floor tiles on the sand, hit lightly on the tiles with hammer, until the floor tiles are even with the other tiles that has been laid. Remove the tile and there's a mould. He now applies cement on the mould, followed by water (using sponge).. until he covered all the cement with water, he uses a special tool to sweep the cement with water, making them into pastes, like peanut butter on bread.. then he place the floor tiles on it, press down and hit lightly with hammer.. done. :)

Oh I should mention, they use laser light to measurement the floor, every tile they laid. :)

We then went to meet carpenter in Puchong, discussed about our main entrance.. Seminyak wood or Sime wood.. both rotan colour wood, solid wood... we were quoted RM1800 which was said to be special price. :S That's still so expensive. Our cousin said he won't spend more than RM1000 on a door, so we're exploring the options of having a steel door as main entrance. :) Praying for wisdom and ideas... and that it can be finalised asap. ;)

17th June, Sunday. Joshua and I were back in Muar. Not sure if Ah Hoong and workers worked though. :)

That's all of week 8's update. :) We're thinking painting will start latest 30th June, any paint colour to suggest?
