Week 15. 30th July to 5th August 2012.
Monday noon Floor Depot came to beautify the stairs! Anne was in this whole week so she open the door for them and helped ensure that the materials they used are as discussed. :) I went back home during lunch hour to check on the progress.
I saw the same 2 malay guys. Wanted to say hi or something but they are all silent and quiet. They don't even talk to each other. Super quiet. We suspect in their staff motivation class, they were trained to only work and not talk.
Here's the profiling, is PVC material and can be bended.

Anne cooked me lunch, we ate and before I drove back to office, I dropped by again. ;) At least this looks more promising than the moron wardrobe.
At night, after work, I went home changed, pick up some old curtains and we all met at 73. Then we went to 71. We're going to work on the curtain rods. We wanted to see if any of our contractors can help us drill in the rods, but eventually decided to do it ourselves. It took us quite long to get the 1st drill right, have the wall plug in and screw in the nail together with washer & the curtain L bracket...
Anne and I stood and helped Joshua with whatever tools he need.

And now with the rod on and the curtain!! :D The rod was old one from Muar. I love that we could re-use it! Curtain is old curtain from USJ house while Joshua was still a bachelor. It's sewed by his mum.. and its design is really ugly... and I doubt if Joshua has ever wash this curtain.. because it has a funny smell. :P Anyway this is just a temporary curtain because the house is still going to get dusty with different things going on. :)

Tuesday night, we're back to work on curtain rods again. :) This time the front area right at the entrance. This is the biggest window in the house and will need 3 L brackets to hold the long rod. Here Joshua faced some problem drilling the hole deep enough for the wall plug. He decided to drill a new hole, but eventually we found out we could use another wall plug in the old hole. :( Our wall is scarred, haha.. but then a small hole can be easily repaired with filler. :)
My action time. I help to tighten the screw against the wall. It seems easy but it is not.... need a lot of energy to ensure it is tight enough to hold the rod and the curtain.
3 brackets holding the rod. If you remember this was the rod we trimmed with a saw to combine two in one. We trimmed two short ones and then tried to connect them with a pipe connector.. then failed. Then we found a curtain connector for RM1.40 in Houz Depot but it's a tad too small. What we did is we just wrapped the connecting part with duct tape. That's the best we could think of. It is not very straight because the connector was not strong to hold both rods together but the duct tape will prevent them from breaking apart. Good enough hehe... ;)

Our masterpiece! :D Again is old curtain from USJ house sewed by Joshua's mum. I am not a fan of orange curtain :P clearly we have very different taste. Haha.
I also screwed in the finials in both curtain rods. This one at the smaller window, the finials (rod ends) were actually broken, only left the aluminium cap which has a hole in middle. I bought 泥巴 clay from stationery shop and used it to seal the hole up. :) Maybe a closed up picture next time. Hehe.
That's it for Tuesday. Two curtain rods and old curtains hung up. This ought to make passer by believe this house is inhabited? :D
This one went up easier because Joshua's quite used to drilling holes by now. Also, we know which screw matches which wall plug perfectly for the size of hole he drills. :) No curtain for this window now because the blurred glass is already itself quite private. We will only put on the curtain (old ones from Muar) when we move in.. in other words when the house is free of renovation dust. :)
Then at 1.30pm Joanne from Floor Depot came to inspect the stairs, we showed her the areas that need further touch ups and she agreed. They are coming to touch up on stairs and replace skirting on 11th August Saturday. :)
At 4.15pm after Salt, we went to the granite factory together with cousin. By the time we arrive, cousin has arrived and has made the RM2k payment on our behalf !! He said he will take care of it.... man.. I feel bad.. I feel guilty.. I feel not worthy... but then again I'm sure my parents have done something right in the past that Joshua and I are benefiting from it. :) Don't get me wrong, I'm still trying to think of ways to pay him the money back.
Lets talk about the price of our granite top. It's a funny thing. At first they came to take measurement, then called me and told me it is RM2450. I told my cousin, he said it's too ex, so he went personally to ask them to show him the calculation. The guy ended up quoting RM2000. Thursday when I went to meet the guy Prakash, he said there was calculation error and the price should be RM2244. -_- I informed my cousin about it and again he said he wants the guy to calculate in front of him again. So before we arrived, he calculated with the guy again and they finally concluded on the final price RM2300. @.@ The more they calculate the higher price it gets?? Next time if you're buying granite, once you're happy with the price, please just grab it, don't be like me.... -_- By the way, our kitchen top is more than 10 feet long so their granite is not that long, we can't have a single piece...... something to note hehe. If you want your granite to be of single piece, check first what is the longest granite stone the factory has and build your kitchen counter to match the size. Hehe. :D
Cousin also gave us good news, that he finally have given up on making steel door wrapped with plywood for our front door. I think the actual process was harder than he imagined. He found a door carpenter who charges RM700 for a normal design solid wood front door, so yeay! Carpenter promised to complete the door before Raya! This is the item we desperately want done, after the gate of course.
Sunday, we have passed the 71 keys to cousin. He said that the gate will be installed on Monday and he will be there to inspect the process. I forgot that Monday is public holiday for me...... so our plan to paint dining table at 71 on Sunday has to be postponed. :) Lets see what happens on Monday, we're very very excited!!!!

Wednesday, we chose to rest.. 2 nights of drilling the walls has drained us out. Plus I had to stay late in office due to a sudden deadline.... -_-
Thursday, I took half day off to go to the granite factory at Puchong to confirm on our granite choice, price and measurement. We were told we have to pay RM2k before they deliver the granite to our house.. that's 87% deposit? My cousin was out of the country, so I decided to wait for him to return before I pay money to this stranger.
Friday, we had a conference in church so nothing was done to 71.
Saturday, as much as we pushed for the gate to be installed this day since Monday.. the gate was not ready. :( :( We were told to call the fabricator at noon to check on status and it was negative again. Sigh. Anyway, Joshua drilled in a curtain rod in one of the small bedrooms upstairs. Just trying to do all the drillings needed as much as we can.
