71 renovation progress week 1 !

I think my little blog corner here deserve an update on our house renovation progress.

71 is the number of our house in SS15. :) We call our future home 71 in short. And 73 is the unit next door, which belonged to my grandparents, it's also the place I stayed in during college days and working days before I got married. Now 73 is occupied by Anne, and she's now our future neighbour. :D :D

71's renovation is now the main thing that's keeping both Joshua and I rush like mad man and mad woman on weekends! Renovation started officially on 21st April Saturday, and here're some pictures taken. We're so excited!

The first thing they attacked was the bathrooms upstairs. They knocked out all the floor and walls tiles, the water closet, basin and even the windows.

These are only part of the things they pulled out from the bathrooms. Who will want a pink water closet now? Hahaha.

We want to do bi-fold and sliding doors for this small bathroom so they removed even the wooden door frame, yeayyy...!

Right here is the tattoo guy working on our master bathroom. He's cool, he has Popeye's tattoo-ed on his chest. ;) That thing in his hands was making so much noise to the extent we couldn't hear each other properly even after we scream our lungs out.

2nd day, they proceeded to remove all the floor tiles at the living room! Funny feeling to see all the 30 year old tiles were completely removed and showing the bare concrete floor! :D Ready for new skin.

This what we call the upper landing, our dining area. There are sewage pipes there.. and they have been removed, because all steel pipes are giving leaking problems, we're changing all to PVC. :) I hope they start the piping works soon!

This is our kitchen. We have decided to keep most of the original white tiled walls except for that particular area, which we are going to instal glass walls. :) Followed by cabinets that goes all the way until the ceiling. ;) We haven't decided on the materials for cabinets yet, any suggestion? Laminated with aluminium frame or should we go 100% aluminium? 

This is the back toilet. It was still a squat down toilet, that explains the big hole you see here. We have bought a water closet and mini basin for this place and we're planning to use most of the space here for handwashing our clothes or curtains. We even allocated a corner next to the door to store pails and mops. :D Maybe a small shelf for some cleaning agents?  Oh that pipe you see there? According to contractor, he's going to re-route it to outdoor so that we have more space in this toilet. :D 

This is our backyard. Notice all the concretes on the floor? It was all earth and grass but we want a whole piece of cement flooring that's easier to maintain. Contractor have shifted all the unwanted old tiles from living room and threw them all here. It'll help increase the floor level without extra charges, thank God. :)  But contractor found another pipe outside that he missed out in his quotation earlier, so there'll be some extra charges..... 

We're upstairs now. This is the shared bath. There was a pipe come through the roof into the bathroom, it's been removed and again contractor said will route the pipes outside the house. :)

This is our botak masterbathroom. We're having a glass covered shower area and because of the limited space here, we decided not to have any bathroom door, we'll use curtain as alternative. :) We got this idea from Daniel & Jade. ;)

Now this is at the end of 1st week, they targeted the parquet flooring upstairs, i.e. remove all !!  And they made this slide to throw the trash downstairs. :D

The parquet wood are considered in good condition, they're 30 years old. According to tattoo man, our house didn't show much sign of termites. Yeay thank you Jesus. But we're still going to get the pest control to come do some treatment, we're meeting the guy tonight. :)

Looking back to the masterbedroom from balcony. The floor is all cleared. We have planned to instal laminated flooring here. :)

Here's one of the small bedrooms. The workers did the parquet removal manually with a metal hook, like a hockey stick. First the poured water over the parquet and left it there for few days, then they hit the parquet pieces with the hockey sticks. Hard work.
                                            

We bought all 3 of them chicken rice and teh ais that day. Grateful that they are working hard on transforming our house. :)  They have stopped working for a week, focusing to complete one temple project. They're returning today and I pray that this week they'll have great progress! Lets see, hope they start on piping, and getting the window holes ready.... we need to involve window guy very soon and yeah our electrician is starting work today too. God please give us wisdom in managing this project! Amen!
