71 renovation progress week 12

Week 12. 9th-16th July 2012.

9th July 2012 is our first year anniversary. :) We didn't do anything special to celebrate.. we both worked late... I guess a true celebration should come after we moved into 71. I'm thinking taking a day off just to enjoy the housee! Yes.. I'm day dreaming........ :)

Monday, none of the contractors are in as Ah Hoong is waiting for Ah Loong to fix the lights so they can see the walls clearer to ensure that they cover the waves as much as possible. Ah Loong didn't come as he has other appointment. Typial of him..

Tuesday, both Ah Hoong and Ah Loong came. Ah Loong did more lighting job and brought a huge light over for Ah Hoong to use. He's planning to complete the lights on Saturday. Remember we selected our laminated wood on Sunday? We were told many designs are currently out of stock due to the coming Raya season.... but thank God the wood we picked are still in stock. Anyway, I kept thinking about the wood and didn't feel like I've chosen the right ones....

Wednesday, after work we were supposed to buy wardrobe wire basket from Ikea, but because I was very bothered by the laminated wood choices, we visited Floor Depot instead. :P The Floor Depot sales girl Joanne told me their store at The Curve opens until 10pm, so we went! The 2 malay ladies there were very friendly. :) They helped us pick the most suitable wood. :) We ended up with Montana Pine for floor boards, white chamwood skirting for bedrooms and cherry for profiling. We also picked American cherry for the special flooring just outside bathroom. We stayed in there until 10pm and finally decided on those. :)

This is roughly how our bedroom floor should look like. :) We decided on this white chamwood skirting because it is PVC material, more termite and water proof than other skirting.

Thursday, nothing much. I just did more online search at Ikea website on their furnitures.
Friday, nothing much too. Ah Hoong stopped coming until everything else is settled so that he can do his final round of touch ups on the paint and walls. There's a lot of pending things... I'm so tired guessing when the main gate will be ready. -_-

Saturday, made appointment to meet carpenter. We were supposed to go to Ikea to get wire basket in the morning, BUT just as we drove out of our USJ house at 9.45am, we got a call from the grill guy Ah Kwang, he has arrived to instal those grills. We thought he will come in the evening.... anyway we opened 71 for them, saw the electricians there too. We stayed on for about 1.5 hour to ensure everything goes well. Electricians were installing fans and lights. :)

They climbed up to the ceiling often to check on the downlight wires. They damaged our ceiling in the skylight room. Hope Ah Hoong can help us fix it!
I watched them carefully carry the grills up. If they knock on anything, I might scream. :P
White grills. :) I hope it won't be hard to maintain it.
The largest grill goes to the one at living hall, overseeing our tiny little garden. :)

Fitting the grills into the frame, making sure it's centred.
Drill! My heart ached so badly when they drill.. because some walls cracked!! :(  And the steel and cement powder that was left on the floor after the drill.. looks so messy and the steel left some stain on our wall.
Most exciting of the day will be seeing Ah Loong fixing our living room lights. :D I can't wait to see how they look like when they're up on ceiling with the fan in the middle. But we have to go before he finish everything.... By 10.30am, we had to leave as we have appointment with carpenter at 12pm!

Grills work-in-progress state... :)

So we went to Ikea, spend hours there looking at potential furnitures... this red one might be the chosen one for our kitchen special corner. Hehe.
We finally bought the wire baskets, and some bulbs for an old light with missing bulbs... finally left Ikea at 3pm.

We rescheduled appointment with the carpenter but he still arrived earlier than us. He has taken all measurement he need when we arrived. I discussed about wardrobe design with him, Joshua wrote RM2k cheque to him as deposit and he left. Next is Ah Kwang, he came to collect part payment, Joshua wrote another RM2k cheque to him too. Decided on 9 feet awning and he left too.

Here's what we came back to. :) :)

Can you see our feature wall at upper landing? :) The beam on top made that space looking awkward, so we had it painted in a different colour (initially wanted it leafy green but thank God I changed my mind). Our plan is to fill this small little wall with as many picture frames as possible!! Any idea where to buy cheap white picture frames?  Anyway the colour is moonlight sonata, the one painted in one of the small bedrooms... can you imagine they call it white? Against my winner white, this moonlight colour just looks like lavender purple...

Here's master bedroom's office corner with the grills installed. :) I like it. :)
During discussion with carpenter, noticed a mistake electrician made, I asked them to leave 2 feet for our wardrobe space.. and he overshot the 2 feet! He have to come back another time to change it, he will combine the ventiflation fan switch with the light switch on the far right. -_-

At night, when the sky turned dark, we went to 71 again to check on the lighting. :)

The bee hive light on the right has no bulbs in them. According to electrician they couldn't find, said the light shop didn't give us enough, we don't believe because we checked when we passed them those lights.. his workers might have put in their pocket?

We love the staircase light, the kitchen lights etc.. but downlights in small bedrooms didn't look sufficient, the rooms are still quite dark with just 2 downlights. :S We are thinking of adding 1 more in each room....
We went for dinner, then to Taipan to get a vaccum cleaner and went home to rest. LONG LONG LONG DAY.

Sunday, after church is our cleaning house time again. We made arrangement to have Floor Depot come instal the floor boards on Monday, so we are aiming to sweep the bedrooms clean and wash the toilets clean too.

Ah Kwang told us need to use a vaccum cleaner to get rid of the steel powder, it should be his responsibility to clean up the scene but we can't wait for him. Opening ceremony for our RM240 Electrolux vaccum cleaner 1600 watt. :)

 Not bad...
Then the bathroom cleaners started his work. 2nd time washing it, still a lot of cement dust!
 Pink gloves, L size. Haha..
I'm the sweeper. For a whole 2-3 hours, I just sweeeeeeeeppp.... a lot a lot a lot of cement dust..... until my hair looked grey after that.
From this angle you can see the yellow and purple rooms, which the paint book call them WHITE. I beg to disagree! :P
So that's all again for week 12. Not much progress. :(  Lets soo, what's pending on our list that we're dying to have it DONE and STRIKED OFF..........

(1) The auto gate...............................................
This picture was sent to Joshua by our cousin via Whatsapp. He made arrangement to make this.. and he took a month. :( Finally is done but got to wait for fences to complete before sending for galvanising. Still another week maybe?

(2) The granite counter top. We are waiting for the grade B stone to arrive to put in our order. After the stone is in, next will be glass backsplash and the carpenter to come measure our kitchen cabinets.

(3) Main door... again pending from our cousin. He's making a steel door wrapped with nyatoh ply for us. Don't know when it will be ready. :(

(4) Bathroom bi-fold doors... Waiting to get contact from Ah Hoong to make appointment for the contractor to come take measurements.

(5) Curtains.. we have old rods but thinking hard how to trim them and reuse them.

(6) Air cons, shower heaters to be installed, only can do when gate is UP.

(7) Furnitures... this is the last part before the moving in....

So all in all, I'm still asking this question "when is our gate coming........" -_-

God, please take me out of this misery.......please...
