Our wedding speech

Before I delete this file from my laptop, I thought I should just put in here. :)

When I told Joshua we have to prepare newly wed speech, we both decided to keep it short & sweet. I remember in the many weddings I attended, I appreciate speeches that are simple, short, precise, loud and clear. Basically the speech only have 2 points, THANK YOU and THANK GOD. :D

Same thing, Joshua drafted the whole speech and I did the editing. We did it quite last minute, I believe only 1 or 2 days before. And because we were both on wedding leave, we could only print out the speech in the hotel, we asked the banquet manager to help us print. He's really a nice guy! :)

Here goes. ;) This one wasn't so much of a train testimony. Hehe. It was OUR night so we could speak a little slower but when I was reading out my part I heard people laughing, I guess I sounded like a robot mentioning my relatives. Hehe.

(Joshua reads)
Hi everyone,

I wanna start off saying, thank you all for making this day possible for us.
Today is a historic day for our country, and also for both of us. You will remember Joshua and Joan’s wedding as a very “clean” wedding.

Now there are some important people who we really want to appreciate, so here goes.

First, we want to thank our parents, including Joan’s father who’s now in heaven, also my daddy now. More than just giving us a roof over our head, food on the table and education, you have imparted values and convictions into our upbringing. We are so privileged to be brought up in the environment of love and peace, and every experience we have gone through has helped to shape who we are today. It may sound awkward, as we don’t say in the family everyday, but here goes, we love you.

Our brothers Alex, Daniel and sisters Grace and Anne, thanks for supporting us all the way too. Love you all too.

Next we want to express our gratitude to our relatives, especially those who have come from afar. We have relatives from Muar, JB, Kluang, Kuantan, Penang, Singapore here tonight.

*Joshua mentioned his uncles and aunties*

(Joan reads)
I also want to thank my aunties and uncles - Duai Yi, Yi Wu, Ni Yi, 二姨丈, Ngu Yi and all my cousins who’re here tonight.

(Joshua reads)
We also have friends who came all the way from Singapore and Sydney. Really appreciate your presence here with us.

Pastor Kenneth and Pastor Sandra, thanks for playing such a huge role in our lives, Eld Kien Yiak and Eld Shirley for being our marriage counselors, for being there to speak into our lives and guiding us every step of the way until today. Also, Eld Peng Ho and Eld Rose for being our mentors, walking with us in this journey ever since we first met.

Not forgetting the busy people buzzing around in the background sacrificially for us so that we can enjoy this day, we want to acknowledge Jade, who is our wedding coordinator, our program coordinators, Joy, Jill, Ellie, Samuel Siew and Jason Khong. Jane who helped us with ushering, Nelsan with stage, Alicia helping with media, Joannah Andrew with sound, and Kamini with church decorations, Amanda with food in the morning. Our morning worship team led by Joel Vijay, special song performance by Tessie, Anne, Alex Martin & team. And our very awesome Emcees in morning – Elder Rose & Joel Loi and tonight – Jason Martin & Daisy!
All this can never happen without you. Thank you!!

Last, but the most important, we want to thank God for orchestrating this journey for us. If not for His goodness and grace, there is no way we will be standing here, smiling. Even with much planning, there were so many uncertainties that could go wrong, yet we know that the only certainty and assurance is God’s loving kindness and assurance.

Wedding signals a closing chapter of our single lives, as we begin our new journey together. Joan and I, we enter into this chapter, our hope for our marriage is so that we can continue to pursue the calling God has placed upon our lives. So now, to end my speech, I will say the exact words as Joshua in the bible said to his people : “ As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord!”

Thank you!

Phew!! What a long list of people to thank! Yessss..... after the wedding I realised we missed out some names. :( We missed out Michelle Ng our card designer, David Gan & team for helping us with morning's traffic control, Julia & team for helping us with registration, Ronson for security, Evelyn & Janet Han being our treasurers, Shin Wee & Jack for helping with tea ceremony & table to table photography!!

It's ok, nothing is perfect. No need to aim for perfection because that never happens. Hahahahahahaha.... I remember after the speech when we approach Pastor Kenneth's table for a table photo, he shook Joshua's hand, pat on his shoulder and said "Good speech!" :) Praise God!
